Full G Road Test Preparation

The full G road test puts you on a 400-series highway. From Newmarket that means Hwy 404 - and the judgment it takes is the part most drivers have never been taught.

Testing in Newmarket

Read the road test guide first

The full G test runs out of Newmarket DriveTest at 320 Harry Walker Parkway South. The guide covers what the examiner scores, what to bring, and where students most often lose marks.

Merging onto the 404

This is where even experienced drivers get it wrong. The mistake is merging at a speed lower than the traffic you're joining - which puts you in front of a car doing 110 while you're doing 80.

Igor teaches it as a sequence. Build your speed properly on the ramp. Then check the left mirror and the blind spot. Then judge the gap - how far back that car actually is, and how fast it's closing. And while you're doing all of it, watch your distance to the car in front so you don't accelerate into it.

The judgment is the hard part, and it's the part Igor teaches directly. Students who've never driven a 400-series highway - including drivers new to Canada - are noticeably more confident within a few lessons.
